RULES AND REGULATIONS

PLEASE NOTE:

RULES - REGULATIONS - CLASSES

 Are Subject to Change --- Check This Site Often

  1. Only 1980 and newer, stock hardtop automobiles are allowed.  No convertibles, jeeps, hearses, limousines, Monacos, New Yorkers, LTDs, or Imperials are allowed.
  2. Each driver must fill out an entry form.  All drivers must supply their own vehicles.
  3. Each driver must be of legal age per the State of Wisconsin and / or have a valid driver’s license.  If under the age of 18 years, parental consent is required.
  4. The track and / or the promoter reserve the right to reject or approve any and all entries.
  5. Only persons with pit passes are allowed in the pit area.
  6. NO DRINKING OF ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES ON THE TRACK OR IN THE PIT AREA!!!  Any Driver that is found under the influence of drugs and / or alcohol will be disqualified and removed from the grounds.  NO going into the beer tent, security at the beer tent will be checking for Demo Pit wristbands.
  7. The promoter will not be held responsible for the vehicles, parts, or personal property; before, during, or after the derby.
  8. No one under the age of 14 years is allowed in the pit area.
  9. Vehicles may be decorated in any manner that stays within the limits of good taste.  NO OBSCENITIES WILL BE TOLERATED.
  10. Only 1 vehicle per class may be entered per driver and this vehicle must be owned by the driver.
  11. Respect will be shown to all firemen, EMS, and officials; lack of respect and cooperation will result in removal from the competition.

 

COMPETITIONS

  1. Seats belts are required, but shoulder harnesses are not.  Seats belts must be securely fastened.
  2. Helmets must be worn at all times.  Eye goggles or face shields, long sleeved shirts, long pants, and lace up shoes and boots are also required.
  3. No deliberate hitting of the driver’s door is allowed.
  4. The boundaries of the demo area must be observed.
  5. Drivers have 1 minute to start their vehicle and then 30 second time limit will be enforced by the track officials, for restart for making competitive contact with another vehicle.  Hits MUST be AGGRESSIVE.  Simple contact within the limits does NOT constitute combat and can be considered sandbagging.  Drivers will be given only 1 warning and an X will be put on the driver’s number; the next time this occurs your stick will be broken!
  6. The demo officials have right to refuse registration to anyone that they feel is not qualified for competition.
  7. The decisions of the demo officials are final.
  8. Absolutely no holding will be permitted. There will be NO TEAMING allowed.  If this is observed, the drivers who are teaming, will be asked to break their sticks.  The officials will make this call.
  9. Once a driver is out of their vehicle the driver is out of the heat.  Drivers will not be able to return to their vehicle until the heat is over.
  10. When a RED flag is being displayed there will be ABSOLUTELY NO MOVEMENT.  This is for the protection of the safety personal and the officials.  If there is any movement, you will be asked to break your stick.
  11. If a roll over occurs, the safety personal and the officials will flip the vehicle over.  Then after an inspection and the ok from the firemen that it is safe, drivers will be able to run their vehicle, if they wish to continue the heat.  The safety personal and the officials will NOT pull vehicles apart, but drivers will be removed from the vehicle if there is safety issue.
     

PREPARATIONS OF FULL SIZE CARS 

  1. All glass, including the windshield, side windows, rear windows, head and tail lights and mirrors must be removed from the vehicle. 
  2. All interior carpet and door panels must be removed, including the entire rear seat.  The door panel in the driver’s door may be left, for protections.  Stock gas tanks and exterior trim and molding must be removed.
  3. Switching engines are allowed.
  4. Welded or chained motor mounts are recommended
  5. Radiators and cooling systems must be located in the engine compartment and below the hood.  NO ANTI-FREEZE!!!  Please flush your radiator twice!  Fluid MUST be full upon inspection.  Officials will be checking for anti-freeze with a tester, vehicles found to have anti-freeze will NOT be allowed to run.
  6. Rear end gears may be welded to produce a posi-traction rear end.
  7. Only 1 automotive battery may be used and it must be located in the passenger compartment, securely mounted, and covered with rubber mats.
  8. Gas tanks are limited to a capacity of only 6 gallons.  Gas tanks must be securely fastened in the middle, in the back compartment of the vehicle. Not mounted to the floor board.  No stock auto gas tanks may be used.   
  9. Electric fuel tanks are allowed and must have an on / off switch on the LEFT side of the steering wheel and marked on / off.  Electric fuel pumps must be mounted by the gas tank in the rear seat area.  Gas tanks must be mounted in the center of the rear seat area.
  10. Bumper shocks may be welded; but ABSOLUTELY NO METAL MAY BE ADDED.  No welding may be done to the frame.  Bumpers may be chained in 2 places; chains may not be longer than 30 inches.  Chains may not go to the body, at all.  Only stock bumper are allowed.
  11. No frame seams may be rewelded!  No roll cages, braces, pipes, angle iron, or reinforcing allowed.
  12. Doors must be secured by the following means:

·           In the interest of safety, the minimum chain link size of ¼ inch is to be used and may be no longer than 36 inches.  NO DOG CHAINS ARE ALLOWED!

·           2 chains per door are allowed; the chain may go through the fender on the front door.  A 3rd chain is allowed to hold together the driver and passengers doors. but must be places on the bottom of the doors.  No wire or cables are allowed and only 1 chain is allowed from the roof to the frame on the passenger side only.

  1. The driver’s seat needs to be braced in the back, in case of seat failure.  A pipe may be used, at least 3 inches in size; but no solid bars.  The pipe needs to go from door to door.  There must also be a plate at the end of the pipes, preventing the pipes from going through the doors when the vehicle is hit.  Chain pipe so that it falls to the floor, if the pipe comes off during the heat. No ratchet straps, the same thing may be done with dash pipe.
  2. Hoods and trunks must be held down in 4 spots with a chain, no longer than 36 inches, or 2 threaded rods and 2 chains in the hood and trunk, the rods can not be bigger than ¾ inch and no longer than 4 inches from the outside of the hood or trunk.  Only 3 nuts per rod are allowed.  Plate size can be no bigger than 4 X 4 inches.  Threaded rod may be secured to the frame of the vehicle by bolting or welding.
  3. Body mounts must left original, except the rear 2 on the trunk and the 2 in the clip; may be replaced with 7/16 inch bolts and ¾ inch washers.
  4. SUSPENSIONS - No chaining of the suspensions will be allowed.  Leaf springs may be repaired, but no more than 4 clamps may secure each set of springs.  Coil springs may be chained in or welded.
  5. TIRES - Must run with with stock manufactory rim.  No split rims or fluid in the tires will be allowed, nor are tire chains or studded tires.  There are no ply restrictions.  No foreign materials or tires inside tires are allowed.  No valve stem protections are allowed.  LT tires may be used.
  6. BOLTS - No bolts may be used on the exterior of the vehicles.  Bolts may not be added to the hood, trunk, fenders, doors, or fender wheel wells.
  7. All vehicles must have a suitable hole for the putting out of fires; in the event that these holes are not big enough, drivers will be required to enlarge them.
  8. All vehicles MUST HAVE WORKING BREAKS at the start of the heat.
  9. ONLY the driver’s door must be painted a BRIGHT color.  This is mandatory.
  10. Each vehicle MUST have a visible number painted on it that is at least 24 inches tall.  This number must be painted on BOTH front doors and STANDING ON THE ROOF OF THE VEHICLE. If you do not have a number, one will be assigned to you at registration.  If there is no standing number on the roof, that vehicle will not run!!
  11. If there are air bags in the vehicles - they MUST be disarmed; before competition. 

SEDANS WILL RUN WITH SEDANS &
WAGONS WILL RUN WITH WAGONS

TRUCKS 

Trucks will follow all the rules of the full size cars; with the following exceptions - as listed below:

1.      2-wheel or 4-wheel drive, the front driveshaft must be removed on 4-wheel drive trucks.

2.      Trucks must have a box, but no flat beds.

3.      The gas tank must be secured in the center behind the cab.

4.      No split rims.

5.      Hood and tail lights may be secured in a maximum of 4 places with a chain no longer than 30 inches; or 2 threaded rods no bigger than ¾ inch, 3 nuts per rod, 4 X 4 inch plates.

6.      The floorboards and boxes may be repaired and the cab may be rebolted with factory size bolts.

7.      A chain is allowed to go around the cover of the cab to the front corner of the box.

 

  

COMPACT CARS

Compact cars will follow all the rules of the full size cars; with the following exceptions - as listed below:

1.      Compact cars may not exceed a 99 inch wheel base.  The measurements are made from the center of the hub of the front axle to the center of the hub of the rear axle.

2.      Only 4 cylinder engines are allowed.

3.    No 4 X 4 cars are allowed.

 

SUB COMPACT CARS

Sub compact cars will follow all the rules of the full size cars; with the following exceptions - as listed below:

1.      4 or 6 cylinder cars only, no V8s allowed.

2.      Only wheel bases of 100 inches to 105 inches are allowed.

3.      No 4 X 4 cars are allowed.

4.      Examples: Ford Thunderbirds, Mercury Cougars, or Ford LTDs, etc.

5.   No rear wheel drive.

 

MID-SIZED CARS

Mid-sized cars will follow all the rules of the full size cars; with the following exceptions - as listed below:

1.      4 or 6 cylinder cars only, no V8s allowed.

2.      Only wheel bases of 105 inches to 112 inches are allowed.

3.      No 4 X 4 cars are allowed.

4.      Examples: sedans or wagons, such as a Ford Thunderbirds, a Ford Taurus, a Buick Regal, a Chevy Malibu, an Olds Cutlass, etc.

 

INSPECTION OF VEHICLES

1.      All vehicles will be inspected upon entering the grounds and may be subject to inspection at any time without notice.

·           Inspections will start at 8:00 a.m. Sunday morning

·           Inspections will end at 12:45 p.m. SHARP Sunday afternoon.

·           All vehicles must be registered by 12:15 p.m. SHARP Sunday afternoon

·           The driver’s meeting will be held at 1:00 p.m.

·           The 1st demo show will start at 1:30 p.m. & the 2nd show at 6:00 p.m.

·           NO LATE ENTRIES WILL BE ALLOWED – DUE TO TIME CONSTRAINTS.  REMEMBER – The Mauston Fair Parade starts at NOON. – NO EXCUSES!!!

2.      Upon entering the grounds, all vehicles must open their hoods and have all door panels off, excluding the driver’s door.  All factory body mounts must be in place and all back seats must be removed, top and bottom.  NO WET PAINT!  The vehicle needs to be ready to run.

3.      Vehicles, which do not meet the rules, will have until the close of registration to correct the problems and receive a stick.

4.      Do not rap door post with duct tape or any other type rap, until after inspection.

5.      Any vehicle found to have an obvious disregard for the rules – such as plates on the frame, pipes inside the dash, plates insides the doors, etc. – will be expelled from the derby.  Examples:  Plate on frame, pipe inside dash, plates outside doors, etc. 
  *** Flagrant abuse of the rules will only serve to defeat the purpose of them.***
  *** If you do not wish to conform to the rules - load your vehicle up and leave.***

6.      Any driver with a complaint about another vehicle must summon an official and then accompany the official to the vehicle in question.  If the compliant is justified, the driver must either correct it or be expelled.  Expulsion will be at the official’s discretion. 

7.      After the feature event, the vehicles finishing 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, will be re-inspected to insure compliance of all rules.  Violations will result in the disqualification and forfeiture of prizes.  If a vehicle is disqualified, lower placing vehicles will move up in the standings and become subject to the same re-inspections rules.
